{"title":"Orange Wines | What is Orange Wine?","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRather than what some incorrectly believe as being made with actual orange fruits (!), orange wines\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eare made using the juice of white grapes as well as the skins themselves.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBy macerating the white wine juice with the skins during and sometimes even after fermentation  (which is not the process when making white wine where the skins are not used) the tannins, flavour and colour structure of the wine changes.  Essentially, the skins which contain these tannin compounds and different flavour characteristics totally change the composition of the wine. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eOrange wines can often have more herbal, aromatic notes\u003c\/strong\u003e alongside t\u003cstrong\u003eangy, bitter touches\u003c\/strong\u003e depending on the grape used and the level of maceration with the skins, and wine maturation vessel.  Interestingly and somewhat ironically given the name orange wine, there are often notes of orange peel, or similar fruits like clementine or mandarin. Some orange wines will give of unique flavours not easily found elsewhere, like black tea, papaya, honey and strawberry yogurt amongst many, many others.
