dard-et-ribo-hermitage-rouge-2022
Dard et Ribo - Hermitage Rouge 2022

Hermitage Rouge 2022 is a natural wine crafted by Dard et Ribo, in the Rhône region in France. This iconic red wine is made with 100% Syrah grapes.

René-Jean Dard and François Ribo have worked together since the 1984 vintage, from a cellar in the hamlet of Blanche-Laine. Their 8.5 hectares are scattered in small parcels across Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage, and the Hermitage holding is tiny even by their standards: a little over half a hectare in total, spread between Varogne, Les Murets and La Croix.

Varogne does most of the work here and carries vines up to 130 years old, some planted in 1910. Whole bunches ferment in large wooden casks with both pumping over and cap punching, and the wine spends around 12 months in used 600 litre oak. The importers describe it as made with no added sulphur, though nobody publishes a figure at bottling. This is the top wine of the domaine and it is made in very small quantities.

We have not yet tried this vintage, but hear it is long and expansive, with wild fruit, mineral drive, spice, fine grained tannins and a mouth watering acidity.
