This red wine is made with 100% \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/syrah\"\u003eSyrah\u003c\/a\u003e grapes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRené-Jean Dard and François Ribo met as teenagers studying winemaking in Beaune. Dard took over his father's single hectare of Saint-Joseph in 1975, the pair bought small parcels in Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage, and they have made wine together since the 1984 vintage. The domaine works 8.5 hectares today from a cellar in the hamlet of Blanche-Laine, spread across three appellations. Most of it goes to restaurants and long standing private customers, which is why these bottles are hard to find.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fruit here comes off granite above Tournon and Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, from vines planted between the 1940s and the 1970s. Whole bunches ferment in large wooden casks with pumping over, and the wine then spends 10 to 12 months in used 600 litre oak. The importers list this one as made with no added sulphur, although no figure at bottling is published anywhere.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe have not yet tried this vintage, but hear it has notes of dark cherry, plum, violets and  olive tapenade, with a tightly coiled energy to it.
