Felsen II 2023 MAGNUM, is a natural wine crafted by Christian Tschida, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This red wine is made with Syrah grapes, which feature a distinctive olive note!
How is Felsen II by Christian Tschida made?
Here, hand-harvested Syrah grapes from 30 year old vines grown in the Leithaberg region, northwest of Lake Neusiedl are gently crushed by foot before aging in 1200l barrels for 12 months, seeing no added sulphur.
Does this Christian Tschida wine need to age?
Tasting wise, Felsen II needs a little aging to blossom fully, although it is ready to drink now.
Drinking now with a carafe we enjoyed notes of VERY AWESOME black olives, blackcurrants, subtle green touches and interesting spices, as well as a hint of black tea. Delicious!
Winemaker's Note
Single vineyard, single barrel. The energy of a single plot, cultivated on skeletal limestone and magical quartz stone. The gnarled Syrah-vines in the top-site Eisner root deeply in the barren stony soil, naturally keeping the yield and alcohol in check. The concentrated aroma of this exceptional grape juice opens layer after layer of deep black olives, puttanesca sauce and a bouquet of wild herbs. It is captivating in its pure intensity.
