PALOMO NEGRO by Barranco Oscuro is a red wine made in Granada with Listan Negro grapes.

Production details of Palomo Negro: Palomo Negro is made by Barranco Oscuro in La Contraviesa, Granada in the Alpujarras region of Andalusia. The winery sits at 1368 metres elevation, making it one of the highest vineyards in Europe. The grape is Palomino Negro (also called Listán Negro), a rare variety outside the Canary Islands. The vines grow between 1280 and 1368 metres on lean, stony soils of schist and clay. The grapes ferment wild in stainless steel, then macerate with whole bunches. The wine ages almost a year in used European oak. 14% alcohol.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Palomo Negro by Barranco Oscuro, but we hear it has notes of raspberry, young cherry, bright red fruit and a vibrant fresh lift.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

Barranco Oscuro

NATURAL WINES BY BARRANCO OSCURO

Barranco Oscuro is the family estate of Manuel Valenzuela, now run together with his son Lorenzo, near the village of Cádiar in the Alpujarra, south of Granada. The vines sit on terraced slopes of slate and clay between roughly 1,280 and 1,368 metres, with the Sierra Nevada behind and the Mediterranean about 10 kilometres away. The family farms around 12 hectares.

Alongside Garnacha, Tempranillo and several French varieties, they champion Vijiriega, an old local white grape, which you can find on its own in V de Valenzuela. Fermentations run on native yeasts in an underground cellar, with very little intervention. Look out for 1368 Cerro Las Monjas, named after the height of its vineyard, and the Salmonido rosé, made from Pinot Noir.
