Matic Wines

Matija Žerjav, known simply as Matic is a young, motivated, and thoughtful winemaker working with holistic methods across his 8 hectares of vines in the Štajerska of north eastern Slovenia.

Using SO2 only when needed and with sparce amounts if so, these affordable and good quality wines have a good energy and presence to them at the right pricepoint. Using mainly stainless steel to preserve freshness, but also known to utilise underground Qvevri amphora, Matic has also been a strong proponent of the grape Šipon (the local name for the grape Furmint) and believed he could create a fantastic sparkling with it, so created his Mea as his first commercial wine. This vintage of Mea is his best yet, with the bubbles firm but not explosive as some pet nats can be.
