Piripi Xarello is a natural wine crafted by Entre Vinyes, in the Catalonia region in Spain. This lightly macrerated, mild orange wine is made with Xarel-lo grapes, of which is a blend of 60% direct-pressed Xarel-lo aged in stainless steel with 40% Xarel-lo that underwent two months of skin fermentation (the orange component).

So, kindof a blend that is orange mixed with white.

Production details of Piripi Xarello: Piripi Xarello is made by Maria Barrena and Pep Tort Montserrat at Entre Vinyes ("Between Vineyards") in Penedès, Catalonia. The two converted a chicken coop and pigsty into the winery, working with old 1935 vines that used to supply a cooperative. The wine is 60% direct-pressed Xarel-lo aged in stainless steel blended with 40% Xarel-lo given two months of skin fermentation. The result is a mild orange-meets-white blend. Made under permaculture and a lunar-calendar approach.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Piripi Xarello by Entre Vinyes, but we hear it has notes of green apple, lemon zest, herbs and a soft mineral skin-contact lift.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

NATURAL WINES BY ENTRE VINYES

Entre Vinyes is Maria Barrena and Pep Tort Montserrat's winery in the Penedès, at L'Arboç in the Foix natural park. Maria also founded Azul y Garanza. They started the project in 2010, released their first vintage in 2012 and turned an old chicken coop and pigsty on Pep's family land into the winery. They work more than 15 hectares, including vines planted in 1935 that once supplied the local co-op.

Xarel-lo, Macabeu and Parellada are the backbone, alongside Muscat, Grenache and pink-skinned Xarel-lo Vermell. Fermentations are wild, in vessels from stainless steel to clay amphorae, qvevri and egg-shaped tanks. The Brisat wines are skin-contact Xarel-lo, brisat being the local term for it. Oniric Gravetat Zero is light, easy pet nat, Cava Funambul Reserva is a Brut Nature with no dosage, and Oniric Muscat Dins L'ou spends nine months on its skins in eggs, from vines planted in 1947.
