Epicure (375ml, vin de paille, aka straw wine) is a sweet wine crafted by Buronfosse, in the Jura region in France. This sweet wine is made with Chardonnay, Poulsard and Savagnin grapes, which are dried outside for 3 months to become like raisins. It is then aged in barrel for 3 years. It used to be dried using straw, but this technique is not done anymore, but that is the history of Vin de Paille.

OMG, this sweet wine tastes INCREDIBLE! What a nectar!!!

It has a big sultana/raisin flavour profile, with touches of vanilla, cream and honey. Absolutely scrumptious and would work a treat with an apple pie!

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

DOMAINE BURONFOSSE

NATURAL WINES BY DOMAINE BURONFOSSE

Domaine Buronfosse belongs to Peggy and Jean-Pascal Buronfosse in La Combe de Rotalier, in the southern Revermont part of the Jura. Both trained in agriculture, came from Lyon and Saint-Étienne, and learned from Jean-François Ganevat and Julien Labet. They began with 0.7 hectares in 2000 and have grown it several times over since, on grey and blue Liassic marls, Jurassic limestone and rocky scree. Jean-Pascal went full time in 2013.

Chardonnay and Savagnin make up about 90% of production, with Pinot Noir and Poulsard for the reds. They use native yeasts only, no chaptalisation, and very little sulphur, sometimes none from fermentation to bottling. The wines age 9 or 18 months in oak barrels, kept topped up rather than under flor, a more Burgundian style than classic Jura. Known cuvées include Varrons, Les Ammonites and L'Hôpital. We stock Epicure, a vin de paille from dried Chardonnay, Poulsard and Savagnin.
