Cerf 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Grandbois Wines in the Mosel region in Germany. This rare unique and savoury Rose wine is made with Pinot Noir grapes.

Philippe and Tanja Grandbois run their small estate in the Mosel Valley. Philippe's path here was indirect - years working in both the cocktail world and wineworld across Australia, Burgundy, New Zealand, and Canada before landing on the steep slate slopes of the Moselle. Tanja came via pastry, which sounds like a non sequitur until you taste the precision in what they make.

Documenting their life well on Instagram, they farm 3 hectares with a flock of very cute sheep doing some of the work between the vine rows. CERF aka The Deer is a unique Pinot Noir Rosé with no additions… which we are sure will surprise and impress you!

Plus there are just 500 bottles made…so many will never get to try this, especially as we ordered a good chunk after trying a sample! Why is it so cool?

First off, this light pale Rose called CERF that almost looks orange has an amazing nose! It’s savoury and pops with hits of tomato, rhubarb, celeriac and a reminder of the shots of “Mexicana” we had in our youth.

The palate delivers a similar profound approach, and also boosts it up with touches of rose, lychee and a wet leaf earthyness. Truly awesome and very different to what most expect from a Rosè!

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

NATURAL WINES BY GRANDBOIS WINES

Tanja and Philippe Grandbois run a small winery in Germany’s Mosel region, where they take care of 2 hectares planted with a mix of Riesling, Bacchus, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. After moving to Maring-Noviand to raise a family, they decided to settle into life on the land and make wine together.
Before diving into winemaking, Tanja was a pastry chef and worked at wineries across Germany. Philippe, on the other hand, left his corporate gig opening bars for Marriott International to gain experience at wineries in Australia, Burgundy, New Zealand, and Canada—where they eventually met.
Grandbois Wines are all about fun and freshness—perfect for sipping with friends in the park on a sunny day. Their use of new oak is a bit of a surprise in the natural wine world, but it makes their still wines, like Pinecone Pinot Blanc, super unique and approachable!
