One of the more famous wines from legend Jean-Foillard is his Morgon "Cote du Py". For those unaware, the Cote du Py is a special place near the village of Morgon in Beaujolais.
ONE PER ORDER
It's the highest elevated plot on sitting on an extinct volcano whereby black hardened soils are known to produce structured, age-worthy reds which are both complex and much more expressive than what you might expect from Beaujolais.
The soils are schist and granite, with some vines up yo 90 years old (mixed with younger vines too).
2018 vintage tasting notes:
Sensational wine. Be sure to decant (1 hour) for best results as more complex than most Beaujolais Gamays.
Expect expressions of black fruit, plums, violet, mild spice and a whisper of black tea. Beautiful and totally different to what you might expect from a non-Morgon Beaujolais Gamay. Expressive and 'big', yet soft and caressing.
