La Grande Chaude 2021 is a natural wine crafted by Philippe Chatillon, in the Jura region in France. This red wine is made with Pinot Noir, Trousseau which we believe has a splash of Poulsard and Savagnin grapes in as well.

The name comes from the parcel found in the village of Passenans, closer to Chateau Chalon than Arbois like the rest of his plots.

How is La Grande Chaude made?

La Grande Chaude is a red blend led by Pinot Noir and Trousseau from the Passenans parcel, hand picked and aged in wooden barrels like all of Philippe's reds, with no sulphur added at any point.

What does it taste like?

We have not yet tried this vintage of La Grande Chaude by Philippe Chatillon, but we hear it starts quite firm, then opens into tart red fruit and five spice.

NATURAL WINES BY PHILIPPE CHATILLON

Philippe Chatillon is behind some of the best wines coming out of Jura. With nearly two decades of experience as the estate manager at Domaine de la Pinte, he knew the region inside and out. But in 2013, he decided to break out on his own, driven by a desire to make wines without added sulfites—something he couldn’t fully control while working for the domaine (which, at the time, was run by his then-wife). Now, he’s crafting wines completely on his own terms, and the wines speak for themselves.
