Bourgogne Blanc 'Landré' 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Domaine Derain, in the Burgundy region in France. This prestigious domain is now run by Julien Altaber and Carole Schwab of Sextant fame, following Dominique Derain’s retirement.
Here we find total white Burgundy in a glass and very happy about it!
With vines found in Burgundy’s Corpeau and the name Landre named after the previous owner, the soils here consist of a heavy, yellow calcareous clay and limestone. The wine was fermented in tanks before resting on the lees for ten months in old oak barrels. No added sulphites
Expect a profile of overripe apples, mild marzipan, floral touches and soft nuts creeping in on the long, rounded finish with retains just the right amount of acidity to be fresh, yet also creamy.
This is a rather gastronomic wine and truly a joy to drink from start to finish… and yes, it is easy to finish!
Who runs Domain Derain in Burgundy?
Julien Altaber now runs the domaine with his wife and partner Carole Schwab, and interestingly founder Dominique Derain is also never too far away, still involved in the cellar tastings, even waxing the bottles when not travelling to other vineyards across the world in retirement. Julien Altaber and Carole also run the winery Sextant from the same cellar. This began as a side project for Julien when he was the right hand man for Dominque Derain over many years before taking over the estate. Now both are run side by side.
