Vinho Verde | Natural Wine from Vinho Verde
Vinho Verde, located in the northwest corner of Portugal, is not exactly the best place to find natural wine producers. It's interesting to note that what is referred as Vinho Verde wine, literally translates to Green Wine. It is not a grape, but a designated wine region which produces wines which are meant to be drunk young. The wines are fresh, often bottled after just 3 or 6 months aging. These wines are often crisp, light-bodied, and exude a little effervescence.
There are not many natural wines from this region, as a lot of it is super low quality and made in huge conventional ways, however, there are a few BUT the style is pretty much completely different to what most wine drinkers would think with Vinho Verde in style. In terms of wine grapes, Vinho Verde is renowned for its indigenous varietals, including Alvarinho, Loureiro, and Trajadura. These grapes lend distinct flavors and aromas to the wines, making them stand out among other regions.
