Dinavolo 2022 by Denavolo is a natural wine made in Emilia-Romagna with Malvasia Di Candia Aromatica, Ortrugo and Marsanne grapes.

Technically, this is the big brother to Dinavolino, as it uses exactly the same grapes but is taken from calcareous soils from the highest sloping vineyards.

Big presence with a rustic, macerated touch. Medicinal qualities, tannins and similar to some vintages of La Stoppa Ageno (he is the head winemaker there)

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

NATURAL WINES BY DENAVOLO

Denavolo is the personal project of Giulio Armani, who has made the wines at La Stoppa since 1980. He started it in 2005 on the slopes of Monte Denavolo above Travo in the Val Trebbia, in the hills of Piacenza. The vines sit between roughly 350 and 600 metres on clay-limestone soils, and the oldest were planted in 1975. The blends are roughly equal parts Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Ortrugo and Marsanne, plus a little Trebbiano and Santa Maria.

Giulio treats white grapes like red ones: wild ferments without temperature control, long stays on the skins and ageing mostly in stainless steel. Catavela is the lightly macerated way in, Dinavolino sits in the middle, and Dinavolo, from the highest calcareous slopes, is the most powerful and tannic. For single varieties, try Mansano (Sauvignon Blanc from vines planted in 1989), Miega (Marsanne grown at around 500 metres) or Ciliegia (Ortrugo).
