Jankot 2020 is a natural wine crafted by Kmetija Stekar, in the Brda region in Slovenia. Located right on the border of Italy, this orange wine is made with Tokaj grapes.. which are not allowed to be called as such such to EU law. Tokaj or Tokaji is both a region famous for sweet wines in Hungary (made mainly with Furmint grapes), but also a wine grape, now not allowed to be labelled as such which is called Tojai or Tokaj (for Tokaj Friulano), made famous in the Friuli region of Italy and nearby Slovenia. Natrual wine producers such as Franco Terpin, Radikon and Juretic make excellent use of this grape, but it cannot be labelled as such due to European law. Instead it must be laballed as simply Friulano. Some winemakers in the Friuli and Slovenian areas label their wines as JAKOT, partly to rebel against this decision. We are not sure why this producer Stekar called it Jankot but presume a similar reason
Here natural wijne producer Stekar makes their Janot 2020 with 25 days of skin contact maceration bevore aging for 36 months in acacia barrels, and then further aging in the bottle. Expect depth, structure and complexity. Zero sulphites added.
