Otskhanburi Sapere 2017 is a natural wine crafted by Nanua Wines, in the Imereti region in Georgia. This red wine is made with Otskhanuri Sapere grapes. This wine is special as it is not easy to find older vintages of Georgian natural wine outside of the country, and as the wines often need more aging than other countries (although sometimes less so in the Western Imereti region than Eastern Kakheti), this wine has a head start for the tannins to soften more and become more integrated

Production Process of Otskhanburi Sapere 2017 by Nanua Wines

The natural wine Otskhanburi Sapere 2017 from the producer Nanua Wines is made using 100% Otskhanuri Sapere grapes and is fermented and aged in a qvevri, a traditional clay amphora. The wine undergoes 14 days of skin contact in the qvevri, with sources indicating maceration times of both 10 and 14 days for the 2017 vintage. 

Tasting Notes for Otskhanburi Sapere 2017 by Nanua Wines

Whilst we have not yet tried this exact vintage of Otskhanburi Sapere 2017, we hear it has notes of deep blackberry, pomegranate, cherry, and mixed forest berries on the nose, complemented by subtle earthy and smoky undertones. The palate is described as full-bodied and rounded, with elegant tannins and pronounced acidity providing freshness and structure.

Flavours of ripe dark berries are balanced by mineral and forest floor nuances, resulting in a long, softly textured, and layered berry-fruited finish that promises excellent age-worthiness... and you got a head start already with this 2017!
