Early Eyes 2022 is a natural wine crafted by Anders Frederik Steen, in the Ardeche region in France. This white wine is made with Riesling and Viognier grapes, sourced from the Bannworth domain in Alsace.

Anders Frederik Steen states that Early Eyes 2022 is:

Riesling from the Bannwarths in Alsace brought down to Valvignères to fill up our cellar with wine, after the 100% loss of grapes, we had in our own vineyards that same year. One time in the cellar, we blended the Riesling with a little bit of Viognier from Mazel and left the juice to ferment in 500lt demi-muids.

Here the wine stayed until May 2024, so close to three years. In May we bottled the Riesling/Viognier, something the wine didn’t appreciated. We decided therefore, to give the now bottled wine another year in cellar, to regain its balance. Today the balance is there, with a beautiful mix of the well-known and relatively serious Alsacian minerality, the southern fruit and often quite lively acidity. We love it!

NATURAL WINES BY ANDERS FREDERIK STEEN

Anders Frederik Steen is a true legend in the natural wine scene, and his winemaking philosophy is simple: “Nothing added. Nothing taken away.” He crafts his wines in the Ardèche region of France with his partner Anne Bruun Blauert, and what's unique is that none of his wines are ever made the same way twice—hence, the many different labels, each inspired by song lyrics or poetry.
Steen uses an old press with a slow, gentle technique and brings a creative, experimental approach to his wines. Expect juicy flavors, oxidative notes, complex layers, and some pretty unique grape blends depending on the bottle. Since the wines change with every vintage, you’re guaranteed never to taste the same wine twice. With high demand and a loyal following, his wines are becoming highly collectible, selling out fast, so grab them while you can!
