Les Vignes des Enfants 2023 MAGNUM

Les Vignes des Enfants 2023 MAGNUM is a natural wine crafted by Anders Frederik Steen, in the Ardeche region in France. This red wine is made with Petit Sirah grapes.

Anders Frederik Steen states that "As always, the cuvée Les Vignes des Enfants is made from the grapes grown in our little parcel called Les Vignes des Enfants. This parcel is planted in 2000 with vines of Petit Sirah, also known as Serinne. They are planted on seven small terraces at Valgrand. Valgrand is an area known for its soil dominated by Marne Bleue.

The combination of the salty minerality from Marne Bleue and the small fragile tannins from Petit Sirah is very interesting. Without forgetting it’s a wine made in the south, these vines always gives us wine that are reminding us of Pinot Noir. It’s not for nothing that those doing research in the history of grapes believes that Petit Sirah is the ancestor to both the Pinot Noir and the Syrah, as they’ve naturally developed to become the grapes we know today.

 In 2023 we’ve destemmed half of the grapes, filled them in a fiberglass tank to macerate for 20 days in the directly pressed juice of the other half. After décuvage of the grapes, the wine was filled directly back into the tank, here it fermented throughout the winter. In springtime of 2024, we made the soutirage, transferred the wine of Les Vinges des Enfants into demi-muid and left it here for another year."
