Methode Traditionnelle 'Chut Derain' 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Domaine Derain, in the Burgundy region in France. This beautiful Crémant is a a sparkling wine made as a blanc de noir, with 100% Aligoté grapes. Because it does not feature 30% Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, it cannot qualify as an AOC Crèmant. We don't mind this at all, as it is delicious regardless!
The Aligoté vines are grown in Corpeau (21) on clay-loam soil, with a high clay content that provides acidity and freshness. The grapes are not harvested earlier because, even when ripe, Aligoté retains enough liveliness for champagne production.
Aged for 12 months on slats, disgorged, NO DOSE*
This Crémant features bright and refined bubbles with a nice, slightly bitter touch and a quick, refreshing and crisp finish. Bubbles are not persistent in the glass, and this makes for a more wine-like sparkling wine experience.
Who runs Domain Derain in Burgundy?
Julien Altebar now runs the domaine with his wife and partner Carole Schwab, and interestingly founder Dominique Derain is also never too far away, still involved in the cellar tastings, even waxing the bottles when not travelling to other vineyards across the world in retirement.
