Vino Vdovjak Ordinarium 2022 is a special 500ml dessert wine from the Slovak side of Tokaj — the home of the legendary sweet aszú styles. Made from botrytised grapes grown on volcanic soils, tiny yields, huge concentration. Despite all that richness, Ordinarium nails the balance: big flavour, proper sweetness, and the acidity to keep it all in line.
The nose hits you with raisins, honey, baked apple, vanilla, cinnamon, a bit of orange peel — basically the whole treat trolley. On the palate it’s creamy, lush, and still fresh enough to avoid feeling heavy. It works with both savoury and sweet: mature or blue cheese, pâté, duck liver, fig + goat cheese tart, nutty desserts, or fruit-driven winter classics like Stollen and panettone.
It also behaves well once opened, so there’s zero pressure to finish it in one go. Just keep it around for a week or two for those “I need something sweet” moments. No judgement.
Blend: Furmint, Lipovina (Hárslevelű), Yellow Muscat. 24 hours on skins, spontaneous ferment, aged in 250L amphora and glass demijohns.
Fun fact: “Ordinarium” was the very first name used for this style of wine in Tokaj.
