ONE PER ORDER

Giorgi Natenadze comes from the region of Samtskhe-Javakheti (Meskheti), in southern Georgia, which was occupied by the Ottomans for several centuries.

The Ottomans let the local vineyards with their autochthonous grape varieties grow wild, so that the tradition of wine growing itself was almost completely forgotten.

In the last ten years Giorgi has spent a lot of time roaming through mountain forests looking for old vines that grow the way nature intended - on trees.

Most of his grapes come from forests or abandoned, destroyed villages.

The grape trees there are more than a hundred years old, and the very largest of them is actually over four centuries old!!!

Giorgi has so far been able to rediscover 40 rare grape varieties, 24 of which have already been clearly identified.

It is thus once again the first wine production in his region since the 16th century.

Due to the very complex harvesting process of the wild wine, he can only produce a very limited amount of wine, from one to 1200 bottles (from different grapes) per year.

They grow on volcanic soil and are situated at altitudes between 1000 and 1650 meters. Giorgi combines the curiosity to rediscover forgotten knowledge, the passion to revive lost traditions and the ability to bring all this to new, younger target groups in a modern, contemporary way.

Tamaris Vazi (Tamar's Vine) was a name Giorgi gave this particular variety in honour of the historically important Queen Tamar, who resided in the then magnificent cave city of Vardzia for the last years of her reign at the beginning of the 13th century and probably drank wine made from such vines...

NATURAL WINES FROM GEORGIA

Georgian wines come from two main winemaking regions - East and West - both offering their own distinct style. In the East, particularly in places like Kakheti, the wines tend to be stronger with a tannic structure that improves with age. Grapes like Rkatsiteli, Kisi, Saperavi, and Mtsvane dominate here. Over in the West, wines made from grapes like Tsitska and Tsolikouri are much more delicate, as seen with producers like Baia’s Wine.
One of the key traditions in Georgian winemaking is the use of qvevri—large clay amphoras buried in the ground. This technique involves pressing whole bunches of grapes and letting them ferment with skins and stems for extended periods, typically around six months. The result is a wine with unique texture, richness, and structure. Recently, though, some producers have started moving away from traditional methods, aiming for softer expressions of the native Georgian grapes. Producers like Iberieli, Ori Marani, and Lapati are leading the way in this style.
Georgian wines are often best served a bit warmer, with some wines opening up beautifully at room temperature. Decanting is also a great idea. Many of these wines maintain their freshness for days after opening, and they tend to age well in the cellar, rewarding patience.
