Vivanterre Contact Orange 2022 is a natural wine crafted by Justine Loiseau & Patrick Bouju, in the Auvergne region in France. This orange wine is made with Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Grenache Gris and Ugni Blanc grapes. Vivanterre was a US project founded by Rosie and Max Assoulin, with the support of sommelier Cedric Nicaise. To our knowledge, the project does not exist anymore.
This delicious wine is tangy and structured, more so than other orange they make “G&M” so expect some nice tannic grip and bold, aromatic flavour profile which would work great at the dinner table with food. It’s more serious than it looks and being a 2022 is now quite a rare find these days..
Winemaking process of Vivanterre Orange 2022 by Patrick Bouju and Justine Loiseau
The Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and Gewurztraminer grapes are sourced from Alsace, the Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc from Rosenwiller from an organic and biodynamic vineyard with clay- limestone soil and 50 year old vines, and the Gewurztraminer come from Heilignestein from 35 year old vines.
The Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc were co-fermented and aged in Foudre.
The Gewurztraminer was fermented separately, and aged in both stainless tanks and Amphora.
Then all three varietals were macerated on their skins for 3 weeks.
The Grenache Gris and Ugni Blanc are from the South of France near the town of Pinet, and were co-fermented and aged in fiberglass tanks and on the skins for 2 weeks.
There was no fining, filtering, or SO2 added during any phase of winemaking. Blending took place, before bottling in late June 2022.
