Poetry of Silence 2016 is a natural wine crafted by Anders Frederik Steen, in the Ardeche region in France. This 14.5% complex white wine is made with Pinot Noir grapes, but made as a direct press so not a red but a white wine. The grapes are sourced from their friends at the Bannworth estate in Alsace (where Anders and Anne have a cellar), rather than grapes coming from Ardeche.

Poetry of Silence tech notes

1/4 of the Alsace Pinot Noir grapes from Domaine Bannworth were destemmed and fermented in juice of a direct press overnight. It then spent a year resting in cuve, before seeing a full three years of élevage without topping up in old barriques, giving it an oxidative character

Having tried this EPIC wine with Anders, it was the highlight of the tasting and comes from the reserve selection, having developed now a lot over the years, they decided to rerelease the last bottles they had been holding back for this occasion. Mineralic, salty, edgy, vibrant and complex.  PURE GOLD.

Anders Frederik Steen is a true legend in the natural wine scene, and his winemaking philosophy is simple: “Nothing added. Nothing taken away.” He crafts his wines in the Ardèche region of France with his partner Anne Bruun Blauert, and what's unique is that none of his wines are ever made the same way twice—hence, the many different labels, each inspired by song lyrics or poetry.
Steen uses an old press with a slow, gentle technique and brings a creative, experimental approach to his wines. Expect juicy flavors, oxidative notes, complex layers, and some pretty unique grape blends depending on the bottle. Since the wines change with every vintage, you’re guaranteed never to taste the same wine twice.
