Felsen I 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Christian Tschida, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This red wine is made with Blaufränkisch grapes taken from 65 year old vines grown with a double root stock system (giving increased competition between the vines for better quality).
This beautiful wine has WONDERFUL stemmy elements, which is not always so common for the grape. Minerality and herbs come through great, almost volcanic in a way but thats not possible ! Just feels this way. It also smells like a bigger wine than it's light mouthfeel.
Pure Christian Tschida magic... again! Highly recommended!
Winemaker's Note
Single vineyard, single barrel. The rock 2023 - Incredible grapes from my 65 year old Blaufränkisch vineyard: A glance at the shimmering iron-oxide-schist all over the soil awakens the inner magpie-eye and stimulates the tastebuds for a smoky grilled piece of meat or beet. Hidden in the depth of the soil a little chalk, giving the extra grip.
The perfect exposition facing the lake and the steepness of 10% empowers a higher absorption of sunlight. This is leading to more intense flavours and aromatic ripeness. The forest in the back of vineyards is making sure the air condition is on during the night, pushing cool air down the hill to keep this unique microclimate in great balance. Berries all over and a super elegant but long and giving finish: a very vertical wine.
