Sylvaner Origin 2023 (One Per Order) is a natural wine crafted by Jean Marc Dreyer, in the Alsace region in France. This orange wine is made with Silvaner grapes (known in France as Sylvaner).
A legend of Alsace and the natural wine scene in general, Jean-Marc Dreyer has an almost cult like following for his wines, which are known to age beautifully.
A big fan of skin-contact maceration, his wines have a subtle complexity to them in their youth, but prevail gloriously after more time allows tannins to soften and intricacies to shine.
With this in mind, this Sylvaner is one we suggest to age, although you can of course enjoy it now. It’s not like a big 14.5% Georgian Mtsvane 2024 with tannins that will rip your face off, instead, it’s just a bit more mellow in its presence but in no way not impressive to drink now… its that battle of knowing what it COULD be that makes us suggest you let this one sleep.
For now, this macerated beauty vinified in whole bunches and aged in large foudre barrels should not be drunk too cold, as it has some tannic grip.
Carafe for 20-30 minutes to get to a less cold temperature and breathe, passing by a slight reduction. We love the features it gives off which include bursts of papaya, peach iced tea, tangerine and mandarin and with a distinct spearmint pepperyness that lingers in your mouth after each sip, almost like you have just chewed 3 sticks of gum.
